Volunteer Trip to Zoolights in 2023

BSC’s volunteers are essential to our work and mission. More than 100 active volunteers contribute 7,500 hours annually reading and recording and assisting as sighted guides. Being directly involved with the people we serve provides an especially rewarding experience.

Volunteer Qualifications and Training

Essential requirements:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Read English fluently at a high school level
  • Be competent with PC and/or Mac OS; keyboarding skills; MS Word
  • Comfortable navigating the internet
  • Successfully complete Volunteer Training & Orientation and renew every three years     
  • Commit to a minimum of eight volunteer hours monthly for a period of at least six months
  • Comply with BSC office policies and procedures, including dress code
